In previous years, TSSC would rent canoes or take campers to other locations for canoe expeditions. With the new canoes, campers aged 5 to 15 years old are learning about canoeing techniques and safety right on the Otonabee River that flows through Trent University's 1460-acre campus. Canoeing is just one activity among countless opportunities for those who attend TSSC, from baseball, basketball, and badminton to tennis, touch rugby, and track and field. Program choices include:
The popular camp, which typically books to capacity by early April, currently employs over 30 staff, including 19 Trent students or alumni. The new canoes were made possible by a new student levy to improve the athletic facilities at Trent. New paddles, lifejackets, a canoe rack and tripping shed were purchased with generous donations from camp families and camp supporters. Trent students will have the opportunity to use the canoes during clinics and workshops this fall. Posted July 12, 2005
