Trent staff member honoured by Big Brothers, Big Sisters |
||
Trent University staff member Melanie Sedge and her "little," Megan Dufrane received very special recognition for their very special friendship on June 21. The pair was honoured as Big and Little Sister of the Year, by Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Peterborough. Darlene Evans, executive director of Big Brothers, Big Sisters, presented Ms. Sedge and Ms. Dufrane, along with Big and Little Brother of the Year John Ernsting and Daniel White, with their awards on the Faryon Bridge at Trent. "You've provided a wonderful inspiration for Megan and you've gone above and beyond our agency's expectations," said Ms. Evans, in her presentation to Ms. Sedge, who works in Trent's Continuing Education department. Ms. Sedge has been Ms. Dufrane's "big" for the last two-and-a-half years. Together they go bowling, to the library and to the rock-climbing wall, take in movies and create their own "craft nights". This summer, Ms. Dufrane will be attending Camp Wanapetei for two weeks, all thanks to Ms. Sedge. "I always like to think I'm going out with Mel because I already know we'll be doing something cool," says Ms. Dufrane, who is 13 years old. Meanwhile, Ms. Sedge says being with Ms. Dufrane makes her feel like a kid again; she also admires her little's positive approach and attitude. Congratulations!
