Alumni Celebrate the Spirit of Trent |

The dinner, marche style catered by Aramark Food Services and sponsored by Clearsight Wealth Management, took place in the new Robinson Dining Hall at Peter Gzowski College and the First Peoples House of Learning. In attendance were winners of alumni recognition awards from the past 25 years, including those who received the Stephenson Award, the Lightbody Prize, college awards and others. Also at the event, the 2004 Spirit of Trent Award was presented to alumnus Bruce Kennedy '66, whose career in international development has taken him around the world. Mr. Kennedy was Trent's second alumnus-in-residence this spring. A second Spirit of Trent Award had earlier been presented to Dawn Wilson '72, of Cambridge Bay, Northwest Territories, for her 30-year career as a teacher and principal in the north. Prof. David Newhouse, principal of Peter Gzowski College welcomed guests and the TISA (Trent International Students' Association) Choir performed. "The 2005 Spirit of Trent Dinner represented the first time in 40 years that so many past award recipients and outstanding former students returned to the University to celebrate Trent, and the accomplishments of its alumni body, in such a unique forum," said Rod Cumming '87, Alumni Association co-president. "From the beautiful setting of the new Robinson Hall, to the evening's keynote address and the uplifting performance of the TISA Choir, the entire night was a great tribute to the passion and inspiration of past and current members of the entire Trent community." Tours of Peter Gzowski College and the First Peoples House of Learning and of some of the newer spaces on campus were offered to alumni, and an alumni wall of fame was displayed to showcased accomplishments. Listening and video stations were set up where attendees could listen and view the work of alumni. "It was a wonderful evening," said Director of Alumni Affairs Tony Storey. "We were honouring people who have strengthened Trent in the past and I believe those people went away feeling honoured." The Spirit of Trent organizing committee included Yvette Scrivener '88, Rod Cumming '87, Georgina Galloway '91, Kim Fielding '98, Barb Prevedello '88 and Kathleen Easson '78.
