Trent University hosts annual Ontario High School German Contest: May 13 and 14

Trent University is pleased to be welcoming 45 high school students from across the province as it hosts the annual Ontario High School German Contest on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.

Organized and sponsored by the German Studies section of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the contest is an opportunity for secondary school students from all regions of Ontario to get to know one another, to participate in social activities highlighting the culture and language of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and finally to compete in a series of written and oral examinations designed to test their written and spoken German.

The students, who are the winners of preliminary German contests held in their respective school board districts, will spend the weekend in the Lady Eaton College student residence and be accompanied on guided tours of the Trent campus, the Peterborough Lift Lock, and the Canadian Canoe Museum. The tests will take place on Saturday morning, and the contest will conclude with an awards dinner in the Lady Eaton College Dining Hall on Saturday evening.

Guests at Saturday's awards dinner will include the Provincial Organizing Committee as well as delegates from the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Goethe-Institut Toronto. Trent will be represented by Vice President Academic and Provost Susan Apostle-Clark, German Studies Professors Arndt Krüger and Michael Graves, and the social host for the weekend, graduating Trent student Alexandra Kaempffer.
