Argos Triumph Over Trent |
||
The rules were broken and the crowd was loud, as the Toronto Argonauts took on Trent students in a charity basketball game on January 16 at the Athletic Complex. No one really took notice of the score in this not-so-serious basketball game, but let's just say, the Trent team didn't come out on top. Organizer and Champlain College Don Lexie Rowbotham says the game wasn't about winning, but being there in support of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Association. With more than 500 people in attendance, $1,685 was raised. The game was very interactive, says Ms. Rowbotham, and oftentimes, the referee was forced to turn a blind eye to the Argos' tricks. At times, crowd members were drawn into the game, as were members of the Parkview Public School Skipping Demo Team, who performed at halftime. The Trent Dance Team, with some accompaniment by the Argos, also performed at halftime. "It was a lot of fun - a really great thing to bring to Trent," says Ms. Rowbotham, adding the event was the result of a team effort among the dons. The Trent team consisted of representatives from each college. All door prizes for the event were donated, and Ms. Rowbotham says she is greatly appreciative of everyone's support.
