"An Evening with Peter's Friends" Raises $82,000 for Peter Gzowski CollegeFollowing the enormous success of An Evening with Peter's Friends: A celebration in support of Peter Gzowski College, Trent University announced that the special event, featuring many of Peter Gzowski's close friends, well surpassed its goal, raising a total of $82,000. Susan Mackle, Trent University's vice-president (advancement), thanked sponsors, patrons, supporters, volunteers, and the many who purchased tickets for the show. "Our supporters, from the Royal Bank, as our patron, to local businesses and individual community members are responsible for this outstanding result," said Ms. Mackle. "We like to think that Peter would have been proud of this very Canadian event and its results. It is particularly fitting that Peter's family chose to make this the final public campaign on his behalf." Ms. Mackle also singled out Robin Quantick ('78) and Laurie Davey-Quantick ('78), student ticket sponsors, and a raft of core committee members who helped pull together the large and complex event: Glenda Hunter, who chaired the committee, Rachel Burrows, Jane Dudas, Mary Carolyn Hart, Kaye Jackson, Donna Krug, DJ Loman-Hewitt, Joan Seeley, Barb Truax, Jane Ulrich, and Jane Walling. Toronto volunteers Gillian Howard (Peter's partner) and well known entertainment executive Denise Donlon were integral in attracting the star-studded cast, while Nigel Napier-Andrews of RBC Financial Group produced the show. In total, there were 100 sponsors and supporters, 140 volunteers, and 600 ticket purchasers. The event was expected to raise $75,000, but exceeded all expectations by reaching $82,000 net. An Evening with Peter's Friends involved a who's who of familiar and up-and-coming Canadian talent alike: Susan Aglukark, Donna Bennett , Dinah Christie, Tom Cochrane, Graham Greene, Alison Gordon, John Gzowski, C. David Johnson, Molly Johnson, George Leach, John McDermott, and Shelagh Rogers. The campaign for Peter Gzowski College continues with an overall goal of $1.25 million. In the coming year, the university will be constructing a donor wall in honour of the college's supporters. Additional contributions are still welcome and donors will be included in that tribute.
