The Department of History, the Portuguese Studies Review, Lady Eaton College and Champlain College proudly announce a public lecture - "BEYOND FASCISM: Reviewing Portugal's Democratic Experience" by a leading authority on contemporary Portugal, fascism and transition to democracy in southern Europe, Prof. Dr. António Costa Pinto, in the Lady Eaton College Senior Common Room on Monday, November 29, 2004 at 7 p.m. Prof. Dr. Costa Pinto is currently a Senior Researcher, Centre for Studies in Contemporary History, Universidade de Lisboa; Professor of History, Instituto Superior de Ciencias do Trabalho e da Empresa (Lisbon, Portugal), and Visiting Professor, Georgetown University. He is also formerly the visiting professor and researcher Stanford University, Princeton University, and University of California at Berkeley. He is the author and editor of a number of seminal publications, among them Contemporary Portugal: Politics, Society and Culture (2003), The Last Empire: 25 Years of Portuguese Decolonization (2003), Who Governs Southern Europe? Regime Change and Ministerial Recruitment, 1850-2000 (2003), Southern Europe and the Making of the European Union (2002); Blue Shirts: Portuguese Fascists and the New State (2000), and The Salazar's Dictatorship and European Fascism: Problems of Integration (1995).
