United Way Campaign Going Strong |
|||
On October 5, Trent University's United Way campaign kicked off with a barbecue on the bridge level outside Champlain College. Hot dogs, hamburgers and pop were served by celebrity chefs including Mayor Sylvia Sutherland; Executive Director, Peterborough and District United Way Len Lifchus; United Way 2004 Campaign Chair Gary Rabjohn; and President Bonnie Patterson. Campaign co-chairs Julie Crook and Professor Erica Nol were also on-hand. The barbecue raised $372.75. Last year, due to the generosity of University faculty and staff members and retirees, the $52,000 campaign goal was exceeded. The goal has been raised to $53,000 this year. On October 17, Lady Eaton College hosted an auction to raise money for the United Way of Peterborough and raised an incredible $850. The auction was held in the Dining Hall at LEC with an assortment of items and services donated by various businesses in Peterborough, and by LEC students. "The generosity of donors has been truly outstanding," says Brenda Blackburn, campaign co-ordinator. "It is especially heartening to have had participation from the students of LEC and beyond."
