Getting to Know Housing Services |
|||
The Department of Housing Services is a relatively new on campus here at Trent. A department of the Office of Student Affairs, Housing Services is responsible for the operation of all student residences including the marketing, application and assignments, and day-to-day life in residence; the off-campus housing listings; working with Aramark to provide food service; and working in collaboration with faculty and the college offices to provide educational and social programming in residence. To access or learn more about any of these services, students can call 748-1011, ext. 5127 or visit the Housing Services office in Blackburn Hall. Staff members in the office include Jennifer Found, receptionist and Laura Chambers, assignments officer. The director of Housing Services is Michael Porritt, who joined Trent in March 2004. He comes to Trent from Winona State University in Minnesota, where he held the position of Director of Housing and Residence Life. There, he was directly responsible for the management of a housing and dining program with 11 residence halls and 2,500 students. Living in each college, there is a full-time professional person in the position of college don. This person supervises the student don team in each College. The donning teams do several things, including enforcing policy, teaching - through programming, role modeling and advising, and multiple administrative tasks. Primarily though, the donning team is there for the students - to help their experience be one that is all about learning, fun and growth. College Dons are Casey Phillips (Champlain), Paula Greenwood (Gzowski), Tamara Tkachenko (Traill), Andrea Harrington (Lady Eaton), Christopher Eley (Otonabee), and Joann Warren.
