A Pine Tree Lecture - September 28
"Honouring Alliances: Indigenous and Environmental Resistance to Globalization"

Trent University's Indigenous Environmental Studies Program of the Department of Native Studies and Environmental Studies present "Honouring Alliances: Indigenous and Environmental Resistance to Globalization" on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 12 p.m. in Otonabee College's Gilbert Monture Lounge (formerly the Native Studies Lounge).

This 2004/2005 inaugural Pine Tree Lecture will feature critic and environmental advocate C.A. Bowers and renowned Cree traditional teacher Michael Thrasher. All are welcome to attend. There is no charge for admission.

About Michael Thrasher
No mention of the traditionalist revival of the 1970's in Canada would be complete without mention of Michael Thrasher (Four Skies). One of the original trainees in the Nechi Institute in Edmonton, Mr. Thrasher has spent the last 30-plus years dedicated to the cultural survival and revitalization of "Indian Country." An eloquent spokesman for traditional ecological knowledge, he is ceremonialist, advisor and consultant to Native communities, organizations and individuals across Canada. Mr. Thrasher is now a resident of Vancouver Island. He has been a participant in the Trent University Elders Conference since its inception and is Adjunct Professor of Native Studies.
