Varsity Athletes Pop Up to Thank the Community |
||
Confederation Park, across from Peterborough City Hall, took on a tinge of green on September 20 when varsity athletes joined 40th anniversary chair Professor Gordon Johnston to serve popcorn and hand out 40th anniversary party invitations to the public. Varsity rugby players Sarah Newton, Cara Armstrong, Jenilee Feddema and Tom McCarthy, along with sports information officer Steve Hoggett, wore green varsity hoodies and popped popcorn throughout the lunch hour and gave a friendly hello to passers-by on behalf of the University. "Trent's having a big birthday party on October 16 and you're invited," smiled Sarah Newton as she handed out bags of popcorn. She and her friends crossed George Street to ensure that no one missed the chance to have some free popcorn and especially an invite to the October 16 celebrations; they even chased down a fire engine!
