Public Lecture: "In Praise of Classical Physics" |

Dr. Max Thompson to discuss how basic physics affects everyday phenomena: September 16 Members of the public are invited to the lecture "In Praise of Classical Physics" by Dr. Max Thompson of the School of Physics at the University of Melbourne and conjunct professor of the Department of Physics at Trent University on Thursday, September 16 at 4 p.m. in the Science Complex Room 115. There is no charge for admission. Dr. Thompson's discussion will move from the origins of physics in ancient Greece through the 17th Century renaissance of the arts, as well as science, to the modern physics of Grand Prix racing and hurricanes. He is an internationally-noted photonuclear physicist whose career has included work at more than a dozen international accelerator labs. He has built a reputation for presenting excellent and entertaining public lectures and demonstrations in classical physics. Dr. Thompson's lecture will be of interest to members of the public, especially those with an interest in how basic physics affects everyday phenomena, including tides and hurricanes.
