Ontario Alumni Association Conference Held at Trent |
||
Trent University in co-operation with Nipissing University was pleased to host this year's Ontario Alumni Association Conference on August 21. The conference featured the Honourable Mary Anne Chambers, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities for the province of Ontario, who delivered the conference's keynote address. The Minister provided an update on the province's post-secondary initiatives, including the government's investment in OSAP and former Premier Bob Rae's review of the post-secondary education system. Minister Chambers also commended conference delegates for the time and talents they share with their alumni associations. "My portfolio is all about investing in people, just like you do in your alumni associations," she said, adding the associations exist to inspire past present and future initiatives. The conference saw 50 alumni leaders from Ontario colleges and universities engage in a day-long program of speakers and small group sessions at Trent University's Otonabee College. President Bonnie Patterson contributed to the day by organizing a Presidents' Panel. She was joined by York University President Lorna Marsden and Centennial College's Past-president (and Trent alumnus) Richard Johnston. The panel discussed the impending review of post secondary education, and ways in which Ontario alumni leaders can help influence a massive re-investment in the sector. "It was truly an honour to co-host this year's conference," said Tony Storey, director, Alumni Affairs at Trent. "We were very pleased to hear from the Minister and to facilitate dialogue and discussion amongst Ontario Alumni Association leaders."
