Peterborough Rowing Challenge Supports Athlete Development
Organized by Trent University's Head Rowing Coach Carol Love, the event supports athlete development at the University and club rowing. Representatives from local organizations including Stewart Homes, trained twice a week for four weeks to prepare for the event. Ms. Love says, "For most individuals involved, it's an introduction to the sport and an opportunity that doesn't come along every day." She and several other experienced coaches worked with the teams of six or seven, teaching them how to skull and how to row together through synchronization. The teams learned basic boat handling and rowing skills, and developed rowing and racing techniques through teamwork. "The opportunity to try rowing and experience the team aspect of the sport is what it's all about," added Ms. Love.
"I just thought it was the perfect way for a small staff to learn to work together as a team. It's such a beautiful sport and team work can be incorporated into so many different aspects of life, it was the perfect bonding opportunity for our staff." Ms. Love is hoping to make the Peterborough Rowing Challenge an annual event. Posted June 30, 2004 |
