Trent Conference Director First Canadian With Collegiate Conference and Events Professional Designation Trent University Director of Conference and Hospitality Services Ashok Kaushik has recently become the first Canadian certified as a conference and events professional. He was one of three recipients recognized at the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors-International (ACCED-I) annual conference in Vancouver March 21 - 24. CCEP certification, ACCED-I's official designation of professional knowledge and maturity, identifies professional standards for conference and events management and conveys recognition of education and achievement among professional peers. In order to be successful, candidates must present evidence of substantial professional experience, volunteer work in the profession, publish an article in a professional journal or submit a written proposal and present a program at the ACCED-I Annual conference. They must also complete a lengthy research based examination. Completed research material is judged by a panel of the applicant's peers. Only 18 individuals have earned this prestigious CCEP designation in North America. "It's nice to be recognized by your peers for what you do," says Mr. Kaushik. "The designation is indeed an honour and you learn while you're working toward it; it expands your horizons." Mr. Kaushik has spent his whole professional life in the hospitality industry and has been working with Trent for the past nine years. With the work of this designation behind him, Mr. Kaushik is looking forward to the summer, which will see Trent University host a myriad of events, including the DNA Forensics Camp, the Ontario Spring Games and the Rug Hookers Group, which has been coming to Trent for its annual conference for 30 years. An average summer will bring almost 4,500 people to the University and this summer will be no exception with 40 groups coming to campus.
