Call for Nominations: Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching Trent students, faculty, alumni, and staff are invited to nominate individuals from the University community for the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award is named after Professor T.H.B. Symons, the founding president of Trent University, and is made possible through the generous support of Professor and Mrs. Symons. The award, which recognizes outstanding teaching and exemplary concern for students, is presented each year at spring convocation to a member of the Trent University community, and consists of $1,000 and a framed notation. The recipient of the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching is determined by the Teaching Awards Committee, which consists of three faculty representatives (voting), one student representative from each of JBCSA, TCSA and GSA (voting), and the Instructional Development Centre Coordinator (secretary, non-voting). In nominating someone for the award, nominators will be asked to reflect on what they consider to be the main qualities of effective teaching, and why their nominated candidate deserves the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching. Nominators will be asked to discuss the skills, abilities, and attributes that contribute to the exemplary teaching of their chosen candidate, and how that candidate has demonstrated commitment to, and provided a positive impact on, students' learning experience at Trent University. All members of the University community are eligible for this award; for example, candidates could be an advisor, colleague, don, faculty member (full- or part-time), staff member, teaching assistant, workshop leader, tutorial leader, or peer. Nomination forms are available at the following locations and should be mailed to the Instructional Development Centre by Friday, February 27, 2004. - http://www.trentu.ca/idc/symonsnomination.html Previous recipients of the Symons Award for Excellence in Teaching are ineligible; these include: 2002-03: David Page
