Nordic Ski Team Captain Named OUA Athlete of the Week Trent Excalibur Nordic Ski team captain Stephen Hart earned gold in two races at the January 17 and 18 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Cup in Deep River, Ontario, and for his accomplishments, has been named Ontario University Athletic (OUA) "Male Athlete of the Week." Mr. Hart, a Peterborough native, came in first in both the 7.5-kilometre Skate (20:10), and the 10-kilometre Classic (35:07). The OUA Male and Female athlete of the week distinction goes to the woman and man who excelled athletically over the week in all competitions. The title is a great honour; competition is stiff as only one woman and one man are selected from all 18 competing Ontario Universities in all sports each week. This is the second time Trent has been honoured by the OUA this year, as rower Peter Van Roojen was chosen as "Male Athlete of the Week" for his outstanding achievement in the fall. "It was a good weekend for me," said Mr. Hart. "Every competing university in Ontario was at the OUA Cup, and it's one of the bigger races of the season for university athletes, so it's great to know where I sit compared to the rest of the competition." Hart is currently undefeated in OUA action this season. Also competing for Trent was Peter Braul, 14th (classic), 17th (skate), and on the women's side, Adrienne Mason, 15th (skate), 27th (classic), and Carly Moran, 40th (skate), and 43rd (classic). Next competition for Trent is the OUA Championships in Sudbury February 7 and 8. Posted January 20, 2004 |
