Trent's Carol Love named Ontario rowing coach for the 2005 Canada Summer Games Trent's head rowing coach selected from among the best coaches in the country
Ms. Love, the only female head rowing coach in Canada, has been involved in the sport for more than 25 years and with Trent's Athletic department for more than 20 years. She is a 1976 Olympian and a medallist at the 1977 World Championships. Earlier this year, Ms. Love was elected by her peers as the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) "Men's Coach of the Year." "We are absolutely thrilled for Carol, who was selected from among the best coaches in the country," says Bill Byrick, Athletic director. "Under her leadership, the best young rowers in the province will develop their skills and compete for the national title."
Ms. Love says this position is a perfect fit with her role as head coach at Trent, and as a mother of five children, it provides an opportunity for her to get back into rowing at a higher level. She has an affinity for working with athletes as they develop and for "catching them on the way up." There will be 12 women and 12 men - all under 20 - participating on the provincial team. Ms. Love was selected as the provincial rowing coach for the 2005 Canada Summer Games by ROWONTARIO, the not-for-profit governing body for rowing in Ontario. "The coach selection committee had a strong field of candidates from which to choose," says ROWONTARIO Executive Director Patrick Okens. "Ultimately, Carol Love's deep knowledge of both high school and university rowing, as well as her obvious commitment to providing a great learning and competition experience for all athletes and coaches, proved decisive."
