Students Raise $650 Roller-skating - Proceeds to the United Way Polyester bell bottoms and a spirit of generosity pervaded Stardust Skateland at a 70s Disco Roller-skating Party that saw 130 Trent University students raise more than $650 for the United Way of Peterborough and District. The Champlain College Cabinet and its community affairs representative Jennifer Nugent organized the flashback event, building on the success of previous student fundraisers, like the September 20 Float Your Boat For Aids that raised $800. A university-wide event, Ms. Nugent said she hopes the tradition of these fundraisers will continue. "We were astonished - ecstatic that we raised so much money," she said, adding this type of event encourages students to get involved in giving something back to the community. The roller rink was decorated in happy faces, flowers and pictures of seventies stars. A disco ball adorned the dance floor and students were treated to a professional pairs roller-skating show. Prizes were given out for best costume, best dance moves, as well as disco king and queen. The money raised will go toward Trent’s United Way Campaign. Posted November 27, 2003 |
