Mind Jammin’ at Trent University Close to 35 local high school students bolstered their brainpower as they got a glimpse into the unique dimensions of seven disciplines as part of Trent University’s Mind Jammin’ enrichment event on October 20. These high-achieving students, looking to be challenged through debate and discussion, had the opportunity to explore with Trent instructors, the answers to questions such as "Are you Canadian?" and "Should hard-nosed business people care about theory?" Or, students may have chosen to sign-up for a session in Physics - The Crack of Doom, Environmental and Resources Studies - The Environment, Ethics, Science and Action, or Biology - A Multidisciplinary Approach to Forensics. Meanwhile, Mathematics offered a session on Chaos, Dynamics, and Cellular Automata as Native Studies encouraged an exploration of traditional teachings. Regardless of what discipline these Grade 11 and 12 students chose to discover, the day was a dynamic departure for them - from their high school studies. Mind Jammin’ was also an experience in exploration for Trent University, which is looking to develop the enrichment event into something that would be more widely offered.
