Canada Research Chair (Tier I or II) Environmental Modelling Trent University invites applications from candidates for a Senior (Tier I) or Junior (Tier II) Canada Research Chair (CRC) in the general area of Environmental Modelling. Trent University is planning to submit the CRC nomination in April, 2004 and the nominee would be notified of the results of the nomination process in the Fall of 2004. The appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The goals of the CRC program (www.chairs.gc.ca) are to promote leading edge research and the training of high quality personnel at universities. Applicants must hold a Ph.D., have an outstanding record of research in environmental modelling, and have demonstrated project leadership skills. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an active, externally funded research program and to participate in graduate studies at Trent in association with the Applications of Modelling in the Natural and Social Sciences (AMINSS) program. An emphasis is expected on development of techniques in quantitative, mathematical modelling for application to chemical and physical environmental processes. The applicant will be expected to take a leadership role with the Canadian Environmental Modelling Centre, which focuses on chemical contaminants. The applicant could also develop collaborative relationships the Water Quality Centre, the Watershed Science Centre, the James McLean Oliver Ecological Research Centre and groups working on arctic, atmospheric and climatic issues. It is expected that the candidate will supervise graduate students and teach in the AMINSS program and possibly in the undergraduate program of Environmental and Resource Science. In conjunction with CRC nominations, candidates are expected to submit a proposal to the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (www.innovation.ca) at the time of the University’s CRC nomination.
