Trent University Dragon Boat Team Supports Breast Assessment Centre
The annual Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival, hosted by Survivors Abreast, drew record numbers of participants as well as spectators. The money raised at the Festival stays in Peterborough and goes to buy diagnostic equipment for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre's Breast Assessment Centre. Survivors Abreast is a Dragon boat team of women living with breast cancer who are in various stages of remission, treatment or recovery. Founded by Meredith Cosburn in 1999, the team has been busy raising awareness of breast cancer and money for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre as well as racing in dragon boat festivals in Ontario. Find out more at www.survivorsabreast.com. The event grew significantly from last year's 1050 paddlers to 1700 paddlers this year and 6000 visitors to the Festival on Little Lake. Near the end of the day, organizers announced that over $125,000 had been raised from pledges alone. Posted June 16, 2003 |
