Vice President (Academic) Graham Taylor Announces New College Heads Graham Taylor, Vice-President (Academic) is pleased to announce new appointments of College Heads at Trent University, effective July 1, 2003. Prof. Ian Storey will become Head of Otonabee College for a three-year term; Prof. Arndt Kruger is reappointed to a two-year term as Principal of Lady Eaton College. Both appointments are based on recommendations from search committees in the colleges that included representatives chosen by the students and fellows of the college. Professor Storey of the Department of Ancient History and Classics has been at Trent since 1974. He received his B.A. (Honours) and M.A. in Classics at the University of Toronto, earned an M.Phil. in Greek and Latin Literature at Lincoln College, Oxford University in 1971, then completed a Ph.D. in Classics at University of Toronto in 1977. The author of numerous articles and papers in Classical literature, he has served as Chair of the Department of Ancient History and Classics, and as Senior Tutor at Traill, Otonabee and Champlain Colleges. Professor Storey brings significant experience as a scholar, teacher and administrator to this position. Professor Kruger of German Studies in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures has finished a first term as Principal of Lady Eaton College from 2000 to 2003. Holding degrees from the University of Tubingen and the University of Munich, Professor Kruger has been at Trent since 1968. He has served as Chair of the German Department and has regularly been Resident Director for Trent’s Year Abroad Program at the University of Freiburg. Vice-President Taylor also announced that Professor Stephen Brown of the English Department, and Master of Champlain College, has agreed to be Interim Head of the new Peter Gzowski College for the coming year in its temporary quarters on Argyle Street in Peterborough. In the Fall term a search for a regular Head of Peter Gzowski College will commence, with participation by students at the Argyle Street location and fellows from the academic departments that will be relocating to Gzowski College when it opens on the Symons campus in Fall 2004. College Heads provide leadership in the intellectual and cultural life of the College. They work with faculty, staff and students to promote activities that highlight the academic interests and achievements of members of the College and Trent University. Posted June 4, 2003 |
