Trent Hosts Non-Partisan Workshop About Palestinian Israeli Conflict

Trent University will host a three-day, non-partisan workshop to explore the Palestinian Israeli conflict, November 26 - 28.

The event has been organized by three political studies students - Jamie Levin, Elayne Oliphant and Nasrin Himada - who feel strongly about raising awareness of this issue and promoting peaceful solutions.

The workshop will comprise evening events such as lectures, discussions and a film screening. On Tuesday, November 26, Dr. Frank Bialystok of the University of Waterloo and Badea Warwar of York University will present two lectures: "The Oslo Process Explained" and "The Intifada II." This event will take place at the Lady Eaton College lecture hall at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, November 27, a film called Promises, by B.Z. Goldberg, will be shown at the Bata Library film theatre at 7 p.m. A discussion will follow.

"I’m particularly happy about showing this movie," says Political Studies Professor Feyzi Baban, who supported Mr. Levin, Ms. Oliphant and Ms. Himada in planning the workshop. "It is by an Israeli filmmaker and is the product of a long effort. It brings Palestinian and Israeli children together and, as the documentary progresses, their perception of each other changes. It shows peace is possible."

"Hope For the Future" will be the theme for Thursday evening, November 28. Professor Nahla Abdo from Carleton University will present a lecture entitled "Palestinian and Israeli Women Dialogue their Differences" at 7 p.m. in the Champlain College lecture hall.

This event has been planned in an effort to promote healthy dialogue. Each evening session is free and open to the public.
