Innovative partnership brings students to Trent
Seneca
College and Trent University have created an outstanding partnership for
students studying computer science.
This is the first year of a collaborative effort to allow college graduates to attain their B.Sc. in computer science. Twenty-four students have come from Seneca to Trent this year as the inaugural group under the innovative arrangement.
After completing a three-year diploma program at Seneca, these students will attend classes at Trent for two years. At the end of that two-year period they will graduate with an Honours B.Sc. in computer science.
"Everyone seems to be doing very well," said Seneca Professor George Tripp during a visit to Trent on November 7. Mr. Tripp also serves as student co-ordinator of the School of Computer Studies. He adds that, for some students, the adjustment from college to university can be difficult, but that the current group of Seneca students has transitioned well.
Students Adam Kahtava and Henok Ghebrezghi comment that they are enjoying their Trent classes and the broader campus experience. "It’s been great," says Mr. Kahtava.
Seneca College is actively promoting the partnership with Trent to its computer studies students, and a dozen graduating students are already signed up to come to Trent for the 2003/04 academic year.
