As one the top ten most important living business thinkers, Trent alumnus and former chancellor, Dr. Don Tapscott, is driving innovation forward
A thought leader on the impacts of technology on business and society, celebrated author, and Trent’s former chancellor, Dr. Don Tapscott ’66 continues to inspire the next generation of innovators through critical thinking, leading-edge ideas, and a sense of humour.
Named recipient of the Order of Canada and one of the top ten most important living business thinkers, Dr. Tapscott has been an advisor to business and government leaders and has introduced many groundbreaking concepts that are part of contemporary understanding.
He became Trent’s first alumni chancellor of Trent in 2013, and over the course of six years, engaged students in discussion on topics ranging from the value of a Liberal Arts education to how to thrive in the digital age, and how to be resilient.
Dr. Tapscott’s 2001 book, Big Ideas: Chancellor Don Tapscott Speaks to a New Generation, includes a collection of speeches Dr. Tapscott delivered to Trent students, as well as articles for the Harvard Business Review, The Globe and Mail, and other journals written during his time as chancellor (2013-2019).
“I hope the book will be helpful and inspiring to young people and others as they recalibrate their lives,” says Dr. Tapscott. “As I said to students, by all means go out and be prosperous, but we need more from you in this troubled world. My hope is that you will live a principled life of consequence and I hope this book will be helpful to a new generation.”
