The Trent in Ghana program is one of the main reasons I chose Trent University. For the 2022-2023 academic year, I was able to participate in the program. This was an experience like no other, as I was given the opportunity to fully immerse myself in Ghanaian culture. I learned so much from the professors. It was evident that they were passionate about what they taught and were eager to teach. The people were also very welcoming, and Ghana quickly became a second home.
For my placement I worked at Right to Play, an NGO with the motto of “empower, protect, and educate all children”. I really enjoyed my work there as a field facilitator. Learning from the field provided me experience and education far beyond what I could learn from a classroom.
I am from Venezuela and Ghana reminded me of home while also having its own unique essence. Ghana is a beautiful country. I saw amazing art, scenery, music, food and felt very safe. Your fellow participants become your family and friends for life. They become the people that you rely on. Trent in Ghana is something that I would recommend as you would learn more about what you want to do than in classroom.
