FAQ's General VIP:
1. Why can't I access VIP?
VIP can only be accessed using your staff MyTrent Account. If you do not have a staff account login and you are currently a student, please try activating your account. If you are unable to activate your account, it is possible that your paperwork has not been processed by payroll yet.
2. Why am I getting Access Denied when I am trying to access VIP using my staff account?
VIP will only be available when you are active in payroll. If you are not currently actively getting paid, you will see access denied. If you were just hired, it is possible that your paperwork has not yet been processed by payroll. As a reminder, paperwork must be received Thursday prior to the pay period starting in order to be paid.
3. I have changed positions and do not see my new position in VIP?
Please verify your paperwork was signed and submitted to payroll by the deadline (Thursday prior to the pay period starting). If it was received, you will see your position change prior to the pay day.
FAQ's Timesheet:
1. Why can't I enter in my hours in my timesheet? I do not see any worked positions.
If you do not see your position listed, that means payroll has not set you up yet. Please verify your hiring paperwork was all signed and submitted to payroll prior to their deadline (Thursday prior to the pay period). If it was received by the deadline, you will be set up within the 2 weeks and payroll will inform you when you have been set up.
2. What happens if I am not set up before the Monday at noon deadline?
Your supervisor can submit your hours to payroll on your behalf using the email timesheet template.
3. Will the system calculate my require breaks?
No, VIP does not know when you take your breaks. You must account for paid and unpaid breaks when entering in your timesheet. Only paid breaks should be included in the Hours section to be paid.
4. How do I enter hours on a stat holiday?
Please only enter hours worked on the stat holiday. If you do not work, please do not enter anything. The system will automatically calculate your statutory holiday entitlements.
5. Do I need to enter my sick time on my timesheet?
Student employees, casual employees, CUPE 1 and 2 or research timesheet employees are not required to enter sick time in their timesheet. The only available code is 1030 Request Hours Worked.
6. How do I enter my overtime?
Please only enter the exact hours worked each week. The system will automatically calculate your overtime entitlements between all your positions worked.
