Position Overview: The Director of Finance Operations and Client Services will oversee high-quality financial operations within Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR), ensuring efficient, accurate, and compliant services. Key responsibilities include managing vendor payments, expense reimbursements, student billing, invoicing, and collection, while ensuring alignment with Canadian accounting standards, public sector directives, and university policies. This position will also focus on enhancing internal controls, improving customer satisfaction, and optimizing service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, review, and update AP and AR policies and procedures for compliance and efficiency.
- Lead risk assessment and mitigation strategies for financial controls and transaction integrity.
- Provide expertise on tax implications and compliance, and conduct regular analyses for continuous improvement.
- Manage AP and AR operations, ensuring accurate reporting, timely payments, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Complete in-year and year-end preparation for the audit of the AP and AR components of the University’s financial statements.
- Collaborate across departments to improve service delivery and communicate policy and process updates effectively.
- Mentor and lead the AP and AR teams, ensuring strong performance and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or Economics; professional accounting designation strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of recent experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in post-secondary, public sector, or non-profit.
- 5+ years of audit experience, including internal and external audits.
- Proven client relations experience with a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Proficient in tax regulations, university policies, and privacy rules.
- Strong analytical, strategic planning, and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities.
Skills:
- Strategic thinking with strong judgment and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with decentralized financial systems, preferably Colleague.
- High level of discretion, diplomacy, and a collaborative mindset.
