The safety and security of residence students is our utmost priority. The following resources are available to ensure the needs of our students and community are met.
Safety supports in residence
Each night Residence Dons (an upper-year student who has been trained to offer support and troubleshoot problems) provide after-hours support. These staff do rounds of residence checking for safety and facilities concerns and keeping an eye out for the safety of students. Call the Don Support Phone when:
- A residence guest won’t leave or is causing trouble
- A residence student is endangering themselves or others
- A medical emergency occurs (use your judgement to determine if TUEFRT or 911 should be contacted FIRST)
- A fire is present (pull the alarm FIRST)
- You need someone to talk to about a situation that is affecting you
- You have a concern you feel is not being addressed and you need it to be solved as soon as possible
- You find a facilities concern (a broken sink, or door, or toilet, or a leak)
- You are locked out of your room

Feeling safe and secure on campus
Did you know that Trent University has its own security staff—and that they are hard at work keeping the campus safe 24 hours a day? If you feel unsafe at any time, you can either call security or you can make your way to the closest yellow emergency pillar (look for a blue light). These emergency pillars are scattered throughout the campus and put you in immediate contact with security.
- Peterborough Campus: 705-748-1333 for emergencies and 705-748-1328 for non-emergencies
- Durham GTA Campus: 905-435-5111 for emergencies and general inquiries
First aid on campus
In addition to all Residence Dons and Campus Security Guards being trained in First Aid and CPR, Trent University Emergency First Response Team (TUEFRT) is a service on the Peterborough campus who are on call 24/7 during the portions of the academic year when Trent University is open. These volunteers receive intensive training in emergency medical and crisis response. TUEFRT is one of the first responders to a medical emergency and will either treat a student themselves or forward the student’s care to the appropriate authorities such as local Emergency Medical Services. TUEFRT: 705-748-1333

Fire safety in residence
All buildings and all rooms in residence are equipped with fire detection systems. Our fire response systems include fire alarms, sprinklers, smoke detectors, and heat detectors. Some residence rooms also have accessible systems present that can alert students who are not able to respond to traditional fire alarming systems.
