Students seeking a formal accommodation with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) should follow this process:
- Graduate students seeking accommodation should register with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) in order to receive a formal accommodation. Continuing students should initiate this process as soon as possible. New incoming students should register two months in advance of the start of term:
- Register by July 1 for September start
- Register by November 1 for January start
- Register by March 1 for May start
- Following an assessment appointment with a SAS representative, you will receive a formal letter of accommodation from Student Accessibility Services (SAS). The Director of Graduate Studies will be copied on assessments that indicate a reduced course load as part of the plan.
- Immediately following your assessment with SAS you should meet with your Program Director and/or Supervisor to determine your revised plan of study. This plan might include moving to part-time studies or another means of reduced course load.
- If your plan does not involve a reduced course load there is no need to proceed with steps 4-5. We advise you check in with the SAS team and your Supervisor or Program Director as needed throughout your degree.
- If your plan does not involve a reduced course load there is no need to proceed with steps 4-5. We advise you check in with the SAS team and your Supervisor or Program Director as needed throughout your degree.
- If your plan involves a reduced course load and you wish to proceed with the reduction (some students prefer to remain at full-time capacity) you should request a conversation with the Director of Graduate Studies to share your revised plan of study. This discussion will include options for reducing your course/workload while remaining at full-time status. You may choose to stretch your program beyond the standard, (i.e. two years for an MA/MSc and four years for a PhD).
- Following a meeting with the Director of Graduate Studies, the School of Graduate Studies will send you an email detailing the changes to your degree program. This email will include any adjustment to tuition and funding as indicated by the accommodated plan of study.
- Ideally, your assessment process is completed prior to the third week of your first term, which is when tuition is charged to student accounts. If the accommodation is assessed past week three of your first term and you are eligible for tuition reduction your account will be credited when the accommodation has been formally assessed.
