Canadian Association of Geographers Undergraduate Award
Annual award to the Honours Geography student who is judged to have the best academic record in the fourth quarter.
Currie Honours Prizes
Annually awarded to students enrolled in GEOG-4010Y or 4020D on the basis of both academic achievement and proposed thesis research.
First Year Prize
Annually awarded to the student who achieves the highest (combined) average mark in GEOG-1030H and GEOG-1040H.
Founders' Prize
Established in recognition of the founders of the Trent University Geography Department, Professors Peter Adams and Fred Helleiner. Awarded to the Geography single- or joint-major who has displayed extraordinary commitment to the discipline of Geography.
Geography Alumni (2nd Year) Prize
Established by donations from Geography alumni, recognizes the student who achieves the highest overall standing in the geography methods courses (i.e., GEOG/ ERSC/BIOL-2080H, GEOG/ERSC-2090H or GEOG/ERST-2510H) required for a degree in a single- or joint-major in Geography. Students must have completed the required courses for the B.A or B.Sc. in a single academic year.
Gordon Campbell Memorial Award
Given annually to a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student in a single- or joint-major program in Geography with a demonstrated and continuing interest in the Canadian north. The award was established to provide those undergraduates having an interest in the physical environment with the opportunity to develop field experiences commensurate with their career goals. Helping others in this way is something Gord would have liked.
J. Emmett Duff Memorial Prize in Geography
A gift from Professor T.H.B. Symons, Celanese Canada Inc., and John D. Stevenson, Q.C. Established in memory of the late J. Emmett Duff, who, without formal training in the subject, had an intense love of traditional geography and its use of maps. Mr. Duff was a ‘cartophiliac’ - one obsessed with the study of maps and a lust for travel. The Duff Prize is awarded to the Geography honours student (single- or joint-major) who has demonstrated the best application and communication of a research project using Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
Marjorie E. Foster Memorial Prize in Historical Geography
A gift of the late Grenville M. Parkinson, is in memory of his first wife, the late Marjorie Elizabeth Foster. Grenville completed his honours degree in Geography and Anthropology at Trent in 1986 and his master's degree in Geography at McMaster University. Made to the geography single- or joint-major who achieves the highest combined (average) mark in GEOG-3100H and GEOG-3110H, epitomizing the spirit of an integrated geographical approach to the study of Geography.
