Important information for students starting May 2024
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Trent University’s vibrant community of scholars soon. With recent changes to study permit processing and a new requirement for a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL), we want to provide additional information to support you with your next steps to Trent.
It’s important to clarify that the new PAL requirement only applies to new study permit applications made on or after January 22, 2024, and does not affect students who applied earlier or who have already received their study permits. If you applied before January 22, you do not need a PAL.
If you have received an offer of admission and applied for a study permit prior to January 22, follow the next steps in this checklist (if you haven't done so already):
- Accept your offer of admission to Trent by emailing admissions@trentu.ca. Provide the name of your program, your student number, and your full name.
- Pay your tuition deposit of $2500 CAD. You can also opt to pay your full first term tuition.
- Monitor your MyTrent Portal, and check your application email for opportunities to connect with your classmates and Trent University staff.
- Keep us updated on the status of your Study Permit application by completing this survey.

If you have received an offer of admission and have not yet applied for a study permit, follow the steps in this checklist (if you haven't done so already):
- Pay your tuition deposit of $2500 CAD. You can also opt to pay your full first term tuition.
- Apply to defer your Offer of Admission to September 2024 by submitting the Deferral Request Form on the myTrent Portal
- Begin your study permit application: Any students applying for a study permit on or after January 22, 2024 will require a PAL for their Study Permit Application. We recommend you begin your study permit application while awaiting the PAL to minimize any delay once the PAL is received.
- Monitor your MyTrent Portal, and check your application email for opportunities to connect with your classmates and Trent University staff.
- Keep us updated on the status of your Study Permit application by completing this survey.
Your PAL will be uploaded to your MyTrent portal, if granted. While our teams will do everything we can to support your application to Trent, please be advised that fulfilling all criteria above does not guarantee the issuance of a PAL from the University. If you are not allocated a PAL, you are eligible for a refund. Trent University Refund Policy.
We are committed to supporting you throughout your journey to Trent University. If you have any questions or require further assistance, reach out to our international team at international@trentu.ca. You can also visit our study permit website at trentu.ca/ircc.
