Degree Progression Pathway
This pathway is available to students who are not traditionally admissible to their original program of choice or students looking to navigate the new world of university academics. This path will help lay the foundation for success in university learning and provide resources to help you thrive as you move forward in starting your degree.
Why did I receive the Degree Progression Pathway offer?
This pathway is offered as an alternative offer for students who do not meet traditional admission requirement for a Trent degree program, to provide you with an opportunity to best prepare you for full entry to, and success with, a full degree program. After completing 2.0 credits and fulfilling progression requirements listed below, students in this pathway may select a major/joint major and continue in this program or move into another degree program.
Confirming your spot
Check your application email for your offer to the Degree Progression Pathway and email admissions@trentu.ca to accept. Course registration opens in late-June for students beginning studies in September. Accepting your offer will allow you to start registering for your courses at that time. Registration for all courses is done through myTrent, within the "Register" tab. The Academic Advising team can assist you with choosing courses and registering: www.trentu.ca/advising (be sure to let them know that you are in the Degree Progression Pathway).
What does the course load and delivery look like?
- Manageable course load: Maximum course load for the pathway is 1.0 credit per academic term (the equivalent of 2 half-credit courses per term)
- Flexible learning, anytime: Domestic students can take these courses in-person or online; International students can take these courses online (as a LOA is not issued)
- Choose from different disciplines: Students are encouraged to select courses from across the arts and sciences. To help choose your courses, students in this pathway are encouraged to consult with an academic advisor throughout the course selection process. Details on academic advising can be found at trentu.ca/advising
How does the progression process work?
Students who obtain a cumulative average of 60% in their 2.0 credits will be permitted to select a major/joint major using a progression form located on their myTrent portal. The form will be available by the end of the students second term at Trent.
Students who do not successfully achieve this average as part of the pathway, will have the opportunity to take an additional (1.0) credit to increase their cumulative average to be eligible for continued studies.
*Students wishing to pursue programs with heightened admission requirements will be considered case-by-case. The progression to degree studies is meant to be programs that are not capped and that have a 70% minimum admission requirement.
