Ernest and Florence Benedict Gathering Space (ENW102)
In the Ernest and Florence Benedict Gathering Space, students study and take part in an array of activities including traditional teachings, ceremonies, socials and workshops. Mnidoowag A'Kiing (The Spirit Lands) Traditional Area – Tipi, Wigwam, Medicine Garden and Sweat Lodge
Our Traditional Area is is located just south of the Enwayaang building at Trent University's Peterborough Campus. Known as Mnidoowag A'Kiing (The Spirit Lands) in the Michi Saagiig dialect of Anishinaabemowin, it is comprised of a Tipi, Wigwam, Medicine Garden, and Sweat Lodge.
This space serves as a place for students to learn about ceremony and cultural teachings. Social fires are held throughout the school year every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-4pm within the tipi, facilitated by volunteer fire keepers who are trained in cultural protocol, safety, and are ambassadors for the space. Students are also welcome to bring a cup of coffee and lunch, socialize, or find some peace and quiet. The Tipis also act as classroom space.
Student Lounge (ENW322)
The student lounge is a bright and inviting space for students. This work area is set up for individual and group work with access to computers and a lending library.
Indigenous Spaces on Campus
In addition to the spaces mentioned above, there are a number of Indigenous Spaces located throughout our Peterborough and Durham Campuses, including study rooms, research labs, resource and work rooms, and performance spaces.
