All College Events
One of the best ways of getting the most from your college experience is by participating in events and activities. Every week there are many options to choose from - some that are specific to your college, and others that are collaborations between the colleges.
This is the best way to get inspired, develop valuable skills and make friends that last a lifetime. College activities are both social in nature, providing a chance to laugh and relax, and also intellectual, which helps to make connections between what you're learning in your classes and real world situations.
The Last Lecture
The Last Lecture offers graduating students an opportunity to come together and reflect upon their experiences at Trent University, bring closure to the time that they have spent here, and celebrate their many accomplishments both inside and outside of the classroom.
This annual event features an address by a graduating student, a distinguished alumna/us and a faculty member who will offer their words of inspiration to the Convocation Class. Each lecturer speaks under one theme, offering their personal reflections, stories and words of wisdom to the graduating class. The Last Lecture helps to signify the beginning of the next step on your journey.
Unlike convocation where you sit by program and alphabetical order, at the Last Lecture you may choose to sit next to the person you sat beside in your first year lecture, and that same person might be your best friend today. Gather together a group of close friends and celebrate your last Trent lecture together.
Life after Trent Networking Sessions
Life after Trent is an event that provides current students the opportunity to meet and chat with recent alumni. The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for conversation about the transition from an undergraduate program to the work force or further education. Alumni are excited and eager to discuss their personal experiences, share the variety of work and/or education experiences they have had since their time at Trent and provide advice that they learned along the way. Many alumni attending have taken a path that they hadn’t originally planned (or knew existed), but have found success in learning about how their Trent degree could help them along the way.
Enwayaang: An Event About Extraordinary Ideas
Enwayaang features nine faculty members from various departments across Trent University who display exemplary teaching and who actively connect with students on a level beyond the classroom. It is important to note that these faculty are also nominated and invited by a student to participate in the event. This is a very special honour and opportunity for faculty to be selected by their students. Each faculty speaker is invited to give a presentation on a topic that they are passionate about, perhaps outside of the scope of their research.
This is a FREE event which includes morning refreshments, lunch and door prizes.
3-Minute Paper Competition
What can you learn in 180 seconds?
In partnership between Academic Skills and the undergraduate Colleges at Trent University, the 3-Minute Paper (3MP) was inspired by the graduate level competition, The 3-Minute Thesis. 3MP challenges undergraduate students to present their original research in a clear, concise, and engaging manner within a short 3-minute time limit. Representing their College, participants may use up to three PowerPoint slides as a visual aid to support their talk.
For more information please consult the 3MP competition website housed under Academic Skills.
