Alumni
Lady Eaton College has been home to thousands of students since it opened in 1968. For many alumni, the connection to the college has remained strong over time as they have built their life and career.

Alma Barranco-Mendoza '90
An innovative entrepreneur, technology executive, and academic, CIO of the Canada Space Society and Co-Founder, Infogenetica Natural Products Ltd., Alma has made sustained and significant contributions to technology development, implementation and research.
Born in Mexico City, Alma joined Lady Eaton College as part of the Trent International Program in 1990 to pursue a B.Sc. Hons. in Computer Science and Mathematics. She received her B.Sc. Hons. in ‘94 and continued her studies at Trent’s MSc in Applications of Modelling in the Natural and Social Sciences. Afterwards to pursued a PhD in Computing Science focused on Artificial Intelligence & Health Informatics from Simon Fraser University.
Her research on diabetes assessment systems and assistive learning technology for Autism won several awards, and attracted international media attention. She has held top information technology positions at Trinity Western University, where she was also a professor and co-founder the Gender Studies Institute; NerdForce, an international technology and cloud solutions company and the Canadian Space Society.
Alma believes in giving back to the community by serving as a board member of the Langley Hospice Society and the executive board of the Vancouver Chapter of the Trent University Alumni Association
Rob Sinclair ‘79
Rob Sinclair graduated from Trent University with an Honours B.A. in History. He is a Canadian sports journalist who has reported on TV, on radio and online since 1985.
Rob is best known for his on-air work as a sportscaster, reporter and host with CBC Television, CBC National Radio Sports, TSN The Sports Network (Canada’s ESPN), Global Sportsline and The Fan 590.
He also was senior writer and editor for CBCSports.ca, providing digital content on the major pro sports leagues – MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL – and a primary caretaker of Hockey Night in Canada’s website. He reported on golf, tennis and amateur sports too, focusing on Canada’s elite athletes and contributing to coverage of every Olympic Games since 1988.
Rob has interviewed hundreds of sports legends ranging from Mantle to Mays, Orr to Gretzky, Magic to Michael, Favre to Flutie, Evert to Sampras, Nicklaus to Palmer, Best to Pele, Andretti to Zanardi, movie stars, TV stars, rock stars, politicians – the list goes on and on.
Deryck Persaud '93
Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Deryck came to Lady Eaton College as part of the Trent International Program in 1989 to pursue a B.Sc. Hons. in Biochemistry. Afterwards he continued his studies in Food Science at the University of Guelph where he obtained a M.Sc. and completed a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University.
Deryck worked as a medical research scientist for BC Cancer Genome Science Centre and in the pharmaceutical industry doing research on stem cells, cancer, Alzheimer’s, and age-related macular degeneration. He is also an adjunct professor in Biotechnology at Trinity Western University, and Life Sciences Chair at the Canadian Space Society.
He has received numerous academic and research awards, industrial patent, and has published numerous scientific publications including articles, reviews, conference proceedings, and papers in research journals. He also co-authored a chapter in the book Health in Rural Canada.
Deryck also shares his passion for science and technology by volunteering in the IT team at the Canadian Space Society.
Linwood Barclay ‘73
Linwood Barclay, graduated with an English literature degree from Trent University where he was affiliated with Lady Eaton College. He is the #1 internationally bestselling author of thirteen novels, including Trust Your Eyes, A Tap on the Window, No Time for Goodbye and that novel's follow-up, No Safe House.
After spending his formative years helping run a cottage resort and trailer park after his father died when he was 16, Barclay got his first newspaper job at the Peterborough Examiner. In 1981, he joined the Toronto Star.
Over the years, several of Barclay's novels have been optioned for film and television. Most recently, No Time for Goodbye was been optioned for television in France, and in 2012, Trust Your Eyes was the object of a film rights bidding war between Universal and Warner Bros.
His first standalone thriller, No Time for Goodbye, was published in 2007 to critical acclaim and great international success. The book has been sold around the world and translated into nearly thirty languages.
In 2015, his thriller Broken Promise, the first of three linked novels about his fictional upstate New York town Promise Falls, was released. Book two will come nine months later, and another nine months after that, the conclusion will be released.
