At CHREA, we're committed to advancing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Human Rights to the forefront of our campus culture. Our dedication to these principles is evident through a range of institutional initiatives and annual days of recognition designed to bring our community together, advocate for change, and work collaboratively to find equitable and accessible solutions that benefit everyone across all Trent campuses.
Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Advancing Equity: We actively seek ways to advance equity in our university community by addressing barriers and fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals feel valued and supported.
Promoting Diversity: We embrace diversity and actively promote an inclusive campus society, guided by human rights principles, that reflects and celebrates the rich tapestry of our occupants.
Inclusive Excellence: We strive for inclusive excellence, adopting a rights-based approach and developing data-driven policies through innovative research, education, and continuous learning.
Allyship and Solidarity: We stand in allyship and solidarity with marginalized groups and commit to upholding the values of dignity and respect within our community.
Annual Initiatives
Our commitment revolves around creating opportunities for all community members to develop and flourish as individuals and global citizens. Here, we create space for those in our community to explore their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
Pride Month & Peterborough Pride Week
Trent University celebrates Pride across our campuses — joining the national celebration during the month of June as well as the Peterborough celebration during September each year. During these times of celebration and year-round, Trent proudly showcases its commitment to fostering a vibrant and supportive environment for our 2SLGBTQQIA+ community.
Black History Month
Each year, the Trent University community comes together to celebrate the deep heritage, culture, and influence of Black people in Canada and within Trent. From popular culture to academia, February is a month to celebrate the Black experience.
