General Scholarships
Association Of Progressive Muslims Of Canada (APMC) Scholarship for Students with the Best Essay Submissions Regarding Equality, Peace, and Justice: To be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Philosophy courses and working towards their first degree. Based upon a minimum average of 80% and the best essay or project submission reflecting the importance of promoting peace, justice, understanding, or equality.
John Bernard Scholarship for Indigenous Students: Established by John Bernard, President of Donna Cona. One award will be distributed annually to an outstanding Indigenous student who is entering Trent University and whose work contributes to the wise use of technology within Indigenous communities. These funds are awarded through direct application to Indspire
Daniel Powell Scholarship for Latin American Students: To be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Philosophy courses and working towards their first degree. Based upon a minimum average of 80% and the best essay or project submission reflecting the importance of promoting peace, justice, understanding, or equality.
Trent Durham Scholarships
The James Edward Munro Awards for Indigenous Students: Established by Frances, Terry and Warren Munro in honour of husband and father James Edward Munro. Two awards will be given out annually to Trent Durham GTA full-time undergraduate students. One award will be given out to a student of indigenous heritage who has completed at least one year in any program and is engaged in some form of extracurricular activity on campus. A second award will be given out to a student who achieved distinction in an academic course on indigenous studies.
International Scholarships
Justin Chiu International Scholarship: Established by Justin Chiu, who benefited from the Trent experience as an international student Awarded to entering international students from Asia who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential, and some financial need.
Global Citizen Scholarships and Awards: Awarded to entering international students who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, community service, leadership potential, and some financial need.
Alena Heitlinger WUSC Scholarship: The Alena Heitlinger WUSC Scholarship is funded by David Morrison and Alena Heitlinger, and named for Alena Heitlinger, retired Trent Professor of Sociology (1975-2014). She herself was a refugee student in Britain supported by World University Service (WUS) following the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 This Scholarship will be awarded to a student who has come to Trent through the WUSC selection process. The WUSC Refugee Scholar must be studying at Trent University in a full-time capacity (3-5 credits or higher), have a minimum 75% average, and has the highest grade among currently registered WUSC students. This award may be given to the same student but is not automatically renewed. Awarded to students in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study.
IB Scholarships: All international students applying for admission to Trent on the basis of an IB diploma will be automatically considered for IB Scholarships. To qualify for a CDN$1,000 IB Scholarship students must have a minimum IB score of 28. The scholarship can be combined with a Trent University Entrance Scholarship and/or Global Citizen Scholarships and Awards.
Moore Family International Student Scholarships: Established by David and Joan Moore to support international undergraduate students from outside of North America. These scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years based on academic achievement Scholarships will be awarded by application.
Scotiabank International Student Scholarships: The Scotiabank International Scholarships are to support students upon entrance to Trent University from countries in which Scotiabank operates internationally, and are based upon academic excellence Renewable to a maximum of four years per student provided that academic performance is maintained.
TIP Tuition Levy Scholarship: This renewable scholarship is funded by the students of Trent University through an annual levy Based on high academic achievement and a strong record of community and/or international service, it is awarded each year to a student from a developing country It covers international tuition fees and ancillary fees.
Trent-UWC Scholarships: Awarded to an international student entering Trent University from a UWC college who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, community service and leadership potential. The value of the scholarship is determined upon assessment of financial need. Students must be nominated by their UWC college.
Community Scholarships
High School Scholarship opportunity - To be considered for this scholarship, a student must:
1. Be a high school senior in an MBC radio station service area.
2. Intend to pursue further studies in College, University or the Trades.
3. Complete the personal information section below.
4. Submit a 1-minute to 2-minute recording (your voice) sharing your thoughts on “What Community means to you”.
5. The closing line of the recording should be “My name is (name). That’s what Community means to me”
6. Audio and Application must be received by June 3rd at 7pm (est).
The Scholarship will be awarded based on the content of the audio portion of the application.

Peterborough Horticulture - We are proud to offer scholarships to qualifying students who are studying horticulture or horticulture-related fields. Up to four scholarships of $1,000 each are presented annually to qualified applicants. These are awarded at the sole discretion of the PHS Scholarship Committee.

4-H Agriculture Scholarship Bursary - An eligible student shall meet the following criteria: 1. Be a resident of the County of Peterborough (excluding the City of Peterborough) and 2. Must have successfully completed Grade 12 and be continuing with post-secondary education in an agricultural-related field or in a field which can be used in the agricultural industry. Patricia Baxter Anishnabe Kwe Bursary for Aboriginal Women: Established in honour of Patricia Baxter. Awarded to Aboriginal women in their upper year studying science, indigenous environmental studies, computer studies, new technologies or business administration.
Black or Indigenous Heritage Student-Athlete Bursary: The Black or Indigenous Heritage Student-Athlete (BIHS) Bursary is available to student-athletes whose heritage is self-identified as either Black or Indigenous and provides additional financial support to those demonstrating financial need.
WXN—Women’s Executive Network Bursary: Founded in 1997, WXN is Canada’s leading organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of women in management, executive, professional, and board roles, and is dedicated to increasing the diversity of Canada’s corporate boards. To be awarded to a part-time or full-time undergraduate female student in any program.
Fred Wheatley Indigenous Student Support Fund: Named in honour of Fred Wheatley who was the first Indigenous elder at Trent and an Ojibwa language instructor as part of the Indigenous Studies program (now Chanie Wenjack School of Indigenous Studies). To support full-time and/or part-time students of Indigenous heritage who are studying in any undergraduate program. Preference will be given to students with children in daycare and/or to provide emergency support to students who are parents, as determined by the Director, First Peoples House of Learning.
David Smyth Memorial Bursary for Students with Disabilities: Established by family and friends to commemorate a remarkable young man and Trent University student who bravely battled Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome, a rare form of leukemia, and was an advocate for raising awareness of the Bone Marrow/One Match program to save lives. To be awarded to a student who has the strength and determination, like David, to overcome a disability
Bill and Dorothy Slavin Bursary for Students from Developing Countries: Established by members of the Slavin family in memory of their parents, Bill and Dorothy Slavin. Awarded to a student from a developing country.
Rotary Club of Peterborough Bursary for Students: Awarded to full-time students who are permanent residents of Peterborough City and County and who have disabilities as defined under the Human Rights Code. Preference will be given to a first year student
The Resilience Bursary for Black or or African Descent (North American/Caribbean) Students: Established by Justice Kofi N Barnes ’84 in tribute to his experience at Trent University, to honour his personal resilience and the support of others that helped him complete his education. Awarded by application to students in financial need who self-identify as being of Black or African Descent (North American / Caribbean).
Fern A. Rahmel Bursary for Women over the Age of 25: Established by Dr Fern A Rahmel Awarded to a woman of proven academic ability who is over twenty-five years of age or to a woman of proven academic ability entering the third or fourth year of any program.

Norma and Lloyd Parnall Bursary for Aboriginal Women: Established by the family in honour of Norma and Lloyd Parnall Awarded to Aboriginal women successfully studying in undergraduate or postgraduate programs.
Northumberland Canadian Federation of University Women Bursary: To be awarded to a returning undergraduate or graduate female student. Preference will be given to students from the County of Northumberland.
Métis Bursary for Students of Métis Ancestry: Established through funding initiatives of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO), Métis Training Initiatives (MTI), and the Ontario government. Awarded to post-secondary students of Métis ancestry. Students must be residents of Ontario for one year before the start of their postsecondary education.
McGregor Family Athletic Bursary for Women’s Soccer: Established by Barbara, Betsy, John and Marg McGregor who are supporters of women’s soccer. Awarded to an undergraduate student in any year of any program participating on the varsity women’s soccer team, or if no member of the soccer team is eligible it may be awarded to a female player participating in another varsity sport selected by the donor. May be awarded as an athletic financial award to entering students.
Harvey McCue Indigenous Student Support Fund: Named in honour of Harvey McCue (Alum ’66), who co-founded the Indian-Eskimo Studies Department (now Chanie Wenjack School of Indigenous Studies) with Prof. T. H. B. Symons. To support students of Indigenous heritage who are studying within the Trent School of Education in the Indigenous Bachelor of Education Program, the Bachelor of Education Program, or the Masters of Educational Studies Program. For travel costs to their home communities, for travel to remote First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities for placements, for learning support materials, or bursary support for emergency needs.
Margaret's Daisy Path Bursary: To honour his wife, Margaret, established by an Alum '65 who is grateful to Trent for allowing an opportunity for a university education that paved the path towards a successful career. To be awarded to any full-time or part-time undergraduate student with financial need and in any year of any program Available to Canadian and International students.
Teresa Jane Daw Bursary for Students with Disabilities: Established by the Estate of Teresa Jane Daw, Alum ‘84. Teresa had a longstanding history of being a strong and effective advocate on disability rights issues and worked locally, nationally, and internationally to advance social justice and inclusion for marginalized and underrepresented groups for over 30 years. To be awarded based upon financial need to undergraduate students registered with Student Accessibility Services with a disability. Preference will be given to students who attend the Peterborough or Trent Durham GTA campuses part-time to accommodate their disability.
Aditya Jha Indigenous Studies Bursaries: Established by entrepreneur Aditya Jha, founder of Osellus Corporation and the POA Educational Foundation, in support of undergraduate or graduate students with demonstrated financial need in Indigenous Studies or their chosen field. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal heritage
Dr. Edward Nol Bursary for Field Biology OTSS for Racialized Persons: Established by Professor Erica Nol in honour of her father, Dr. Edward Nol, a man whose love of the outdoors and awe in the complexity of nature inspired his children. To be awarded to full-time undergraduate students taking any of the Ontario University Program in Field Biology (OUPFB) courses or a Trent Biology or TSE course that is predominantly field-based. Preference for one bursary to be given to a student who self-identifies as a racialized person.
Durham Bursaries
First Peoples House of Learning Award: This fund is primarily intended to provide emergency support to students of Aboriginal identity or heritage including First Nations, Inuit or Metis people from the Peterborough or Durham campuses.
Multicultural Council of Oshawa Durham (MCOD) Award: To be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled at Trent Durham, and who has completed at least one year in any program and has proven financial need and academic achievement. The recipient will demonstrate involvement with multicultural matters i e clubs, community work or areas of study focused on multicultural topics in the Durham Region.

International Bursaries
International Faculty & Staff Bursary for Trent Durham Canadian/International Students: Established with donations from staff and faculty at the Trent Durham campus. A large portion of the donations to this fund honoured the retirement (2019) of Joe Muldoon, former Head of Trent Durham. This fund is to be awarded to Canadian and/or international undergraduate students with proven financial need enrolled full-time or part-time at Trent Durham GTA.
Shirley Weir Trent Durham Bursaries for Canadian/International Students: Established by the Estate of Shirley E. Weir. Awarded to undergraduate students based upon financial need and enrolled in any program at Trent Durham. It is available to full-time or part-time Canadian and international students.
John Badham Media Studies Bursary for Canadian/International Students: Established by family, colleagues, and friends in memory of broadcasting legend John Badham. Preference will be given to undergraduate students in any year of the Media Studies program on the Peterborough or Trent Durham GTA campuses. Canadian and international students qualify for this bursary.
Garry Cubitt Bursary in Social Work for Canadian/International Students: Established by Garry Cubitt ‘67, who believes in “giving forward” upon his retirement after 47 years of municipal service, including a successful career in social work. To be awarded to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Professional Social Work program on the Peterborough or Trent Durham GTA campuses. Students must have proven financial need. Available to Canadian and/or international students.
Trent Student Financial Assistance Fund for Canadian/International Students: Supported by alumni, friends, faculty, and staff to enable Trent University to respond to the evolving and growing needs of students today and into the future. To be awarded to Canadian or international students enrolled in a full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate program, and seeking a Trent University degree. Based upon financial need.
Trent Part-Time Student Association (TPSA) Legacy Bursary for Canadian/International Students: Awarded to any part-time undergraduate student studying on the Peterborough campus and is part-time when applying. This fund is available to Canadian and international students.
Doris Noftall Bursary for Canadian/International Students: Established by the Estate of Doris Noftall. To be awarded to Canadian or international undergraduate students in the School of Education and Professional Learning. Preference will be given to a major or minor in English Literature.
Arnold Noftall Bursary for Canadian/International Students: Established in memory of Arnold Noftall, vice-principal of Kenner Collegiate (1956-1972) by the Estate of his wife Doris. Awarded to a Canadian or international student in the School of Education and Professional Learning.
W. A. C. H. Dobson Memorial Student Travel Bursary: Named in honour of W. A. C. H. “Bill” Dobson, a renowned scholar and great friend of Trent. Awarded to a Trent student studying abroad or an incoming visa student with travel costs. In recognition of Professor Dobson’s exceptional interest in China and the Pacific Rim, preference is given to students traveling to study in Asia or coming to Trent from that region. Administered by the Trent International Program.
Morrison-Heitlinger International Student Assistance Fund: Established by Professors Emeriti David Morrison and Alena Heitlinger to support international undergraduate and/or graduate students that find themselves in financial difficulty as a result of an unexpected change of circumstances or an emergency situation. By application to Trent International.
Harry Kitchen Student Assistance Fund: Established by Professor Emeritus Harry M. Kitchen, who taught in the Economics Department at Trent University for 40 years. He was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal for policy analysis and research contributions to municipal finance, structure, and governance in Canada. This fund is to be awarded to Canadian and/or international undergraduate students who have proven financial need. Preference will be given to students in any year and enrolled in a single- or joint-major in Economics with a minimum GPA of B.
Joe Wearing International Travel Bursary: Established in honour of Joseph Wearing, professor emeritus and former chair of Political Studies. Awarded to an international student coming to Trent University to take courses in Political Studies. It is open to visa students admitted to the University for one-year exchange and full degree programs. Administered by the Trent International Program.
Maha & Murad Younis International Student Bursary: Established by the Younis family, who immigrated to Canada in 1994 and started Westmount Pharmacy. To be awarded to full-time undergraduate or graduate international student(s) in financial need.
Barkleys of Avonmore Visa Bursary: Established by Fred Barkley of Avonmore. Awarded to a visa student.
John G. McKeown Legacy Bursary for Canadian/International Students: Established with an estate gift from John McKeown '72, a former postulant with the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance. Kindness and generosity were at the core of his being. To be awarded to full-time or part-time undergraduate students in financial need. Preference will be given to students who are majoring or joint-majoring in either History or Indigenous Studies, and then it may be awarded to students in any program. Available to Canadian and/or international students.
Roger and Janet Jones Bursary for Canadian/International Students: Established by Professor Emeritus Roger Jones, a faculty member of the Biology Department for 32 years. To be awarded to full-time or part-time upper-year undergraduate students majoring in Biology. Students must have an interest in plant biology or conservation. Open to students from any province of Canada and/or international students.
Cogeco Bursary for Domestic/International Students: Established in 2014 to recognize Trent’s 50th Anniversary. This bursary will be awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in any year of any program. Domestic and international students qualify for this bursary.

To be awarded to international undergraduate students who have proven financial need. Preference will be given to students in any year and enrolled in a single or joint major in Economics with a minimum GPA of B.
Youngsuk Jung Environmental Science Bursary for Canadian/International Students: To be awarded to a student based upon financial need and in the Environmental & Resource Science/Studies or Environmental Science/Studies programs. This bursary is available to Canadian and international undergraduate students.
