Environmental Geoscience

SKILLS DEVELOPED

  • Knowledge of geologic structures, processes, and phenomena
  • Knowledge of the earth’s physical environments and interrelationships
  • Understanding rocks and minerals including their description, classification, and origin
  • Understanding of the relationship, both positive and negative, between people and their geologic habitat
  • Project design and management
  • Quantitative, qualitative, conceptual analysis
  • Environmental Impact and risk assessments
  • Remediation of polluted sites
  • Conduct field studies
  • Utilize specialized field equipment, satellite imagery and other software
  • Remote sensing and use of GIS

*Like engineering, accounting, and architecture, the practice of professional geoscience is regulated in every Canadian province and territory except PEI and Yukon. In Ontario under the Professional Geoscientists Act, 2000 it is a legal requirement to be registered as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in order to publicly practice geoscience in Ontario
