Program Overview
The Field Placement at the School of Business is a course-based field placement program. Students in the 4th year of their Business or Economics Degree can enroll in a field placement course if they have at least a 72% GPA. Students must complete 100 hours for their placement over the academic term (approximately 1 day per week in the fall and winter 12 week term and 3 days per week in the May/summer 6 week term). There is an academic component to the course along with the placement hours.
Types of Field Placements
Upper-year business students are looking for placement opportunities in various fields such as finance, accounting, economics, human resources, marketing, entrepreneurship, government, research and administration. Companies interested in hosting a student for placement can contact our Field Placement Coordinator for eligibility criteria and job posting information.
Qualification Criteria
The School of Business welcomes all inquiries about potential hosting options. As a guide, below are some criteria we require of our company hosts:
- Placement opportunities can be in-person, remote or a combination.
- Placement Company is required to designate a current employee of the company who will act as the student’s supervisor and mentor throughout the placement duration. This supervisor will be our main contact throughout the term, and would be expected to complete a mid-term and final progress report on the student’s performance.
- Companies are asked to complete a health and safety checklist. Companies will be requested to sign a University Affiliation Agreement for all unpaid placements.
- See Company/Agency Fact Sheet
