Meet Your Dean
"Being the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at Trent is a tremendous privilege. I am excited about strengthening our long-standing commitment to critically-informed, community-engaged scholarship that inspires students, faculty and alumni to work together for a better future. Together, we can create opportunities for meaningful careers, impactful research and, perhaps most importantly, transformative change for the people, communities and environments who need it the most."

About Dean Skinner
Dr. Mark Skinner became a valuable member of the Trent community as a professor of Geography in 2006. Since then, Dr. Skinner has pushed the boundaries of what’s possible at Trent, successfully launching and presiding over the Trent Centre for Aging & Society — a research hub that has attracted over $2.7 million in external funding since the Centre opened its doors in 2013. As Canada Research Chair in Rural Aging, Health and Social Care, Mark’s teaching and research emphasizes a community-based approach, examining how rural people and places respond to the challenges and opportunities of an aging population. Mark’s passion for creating interdisciplinary opportunities for community-engaged scholarship was recognized in his induction to the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists in 2016. Dean Skinner collaborates closely with Humanities and Social Sciences faculty and students, as well as the Deans of Science, Education, Nursing, Graduate Studies and Trent Durham to bring exciting new programming and opportunities for students at Trent.
