Understanding Your Transfer Credits
You can review your Transfer Credit Assessment on the myTrent Portal under the Academics tab and Admissions section. For the transfer credits that have been assigned as Trent course codes (e.g. BIOL 1030H, PSYC 1020H, ADMN 1221H) this means you do not have to take these courses again at Trent. You can cross any of the courses off your list of required courses, or apply them to your elective credits, and register for the additional courses you need.
If you have transfer credits that have a discipline assigned to them but not a specific Trent course code (e.g. BIOL-YR2, PSYC-YR1) this means that you have earned that credit value, in that discipline, at that level of study but your transfer credit does not apply to a specific Trent course. These courses can be applied in two different ways. They can potentially be applied to your program of study if your program has a requirement for a certain number of credits in that discipline that are not course specific. Or, if your program does not have a line like this in the program requirements, or you have transfer credits like this but in another discipline, they will simply be applied to your degree as elective credits that will work towards your total credit count.
An Academic Advisor will be able to assist you with planning your degree at Trent with any unassigned transfer credits (e.g. ARTS-YR1, SCIE-YR2). More likely than not, the unassigned transfer credits will work into your degree plan as elective credits to count towards your total 20.0 credits (Honours program) needed to graduate.

Appointments for New Transfer Students
Have you transferred from a college or university to Trent during the 2024-2025 academic year? Are you a mature student with transfer credits, ready to start a new program at Trent? Looking to make the most of your previously-earned credits and discuss course planning?
Book an appointment with Sylvia, our Academic Transitions Advisor. 30-minute appointments are available most weekdays, with some early evening appointments available Thursday evening. You can book yourself in here or contact us at academicadvising@trentu.ca.
Please note, these appointments are intended for students who are new to Trent and have transfer credits (those starting at Trent in September 2024 or January 2025). For all other Trent students looking for Academic Advising, please see our standard booking page.
When can I register in Courses?
Priority registration allows students with the most credits an opportunity to register their course selections in their major before those who have not acquired as many credits. This process helps to ensure that students close to graduation are getting the courses needed to complete their degree requirements. The Priority Course Registration period opens in June for registration in Fall and Winter semester half-credit courses, and Fall/Winter academic year courses.
Note: transfer credits are included in the total number of completed credits at Trent University. Please review the Priority Registration Schedule on the Academic Timetable for your registration date.
