Who are we?
Welcome to Trent Excalibur Camp - where our focus is on having meaningful and impactful interactions with the children and youth in our community. We are a day camp accredited by the Ontario Camps Association at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. Since 1993, we have been a leader in providing traditional and innovative camp activities, caring leadership, and meaningful experiences to grow as individuals and teams.
Where are we?
Our camp is located on Trent University’s beautiful Symons Campus, along the banks of the Otonabee River. The natural setting of Trent’s 1,400 acres of trees, open fields, streams, and lush forests provide a unique learning and recreational environment. The Athletics Centre is the hub of activity for all campers. Our air-conditioned indoor facilities include a full-size gymnasium, large change rooms, squash courts, a climbing wall, a fitness center, two dance/fitness rooms, a classroom, a rowing/paddling tank, and our health care center. We also have river access for rowing, canoeing, and water activities.
Why are we special?
It is a simple philosophy: we are here for the kids. Our camper focus, high standards, and commitment to enriching the lives of children, youth and families has helped us achieve the Ontario Camps Accreditation - meaning we've been recognized as honest, responsible and fair individuals who act in the best interests of our communities. All of our programs are designed with the interests and needs of kids in mind - with a particular focus on creating safe and inclusive spaces for our campers to thrive. The Trent Excalibur Summer Camp is more than just fun. We believe camp can develop important skills including decision-making, problem solving, independence, teamwork, responsibility, and interpersonal skills. At the Trent Excalibur Camp we work hard to ensure that each camper can learn, grow, and play each day.
Outstanding Staff: We know that anyone enrolling a child or young person in a program or summer camp wants to be assured of positive role models who make kids feel included, empowered, and safe. Many of our counselors and instructors are enrolled in Trent University’s Bachelor of Education, Social Work, Nursing, and Biology Programs and all of them are certified in First Aid/CPR/AED and SafeTALK. Many are National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) certified in their sports, extensive training and experience with sports, arts, sciences, and outdoor education.
Commitment to Equity: We strongly believe in the importance of creating spaces where all people, regardless of background, can thrive. We understand that structural inequalities mean that some people deserve an extra step up to level the playing field and allow them to succeed. We are official partners with Kids in Camp, a registered charity established to financially assist families to send their kids to an OCA accredited camp. We also have our own Share Camp fund - where we accept applications from anyone facing financial barriers to camp. Talk to us about how we can help.
Mental Health Positivity: We understand the influence we have in providing leisure and recreation activities to children and youth in our community, and the responsibility that comes with embedding a positive mental health culture within our programs. We are committed to teaching our campers to develop routines and healthy coping mechanisms to form lifelong habits that contribute to supporting their mental health.
Professional Camp Leaders: At TEC, we work on camp business year-round. Camp is our job, and we work hard at it each and every day! Our Director works full-time at the Athletic Centre at Trent University, so drop by for a visit or tour anytime.
Time to Learn and Grow: Campers need time to become comfortable with their surroundings and their leaders, and lots of time to learn and practice different skills. Therefore, our camp programs are two weeks long, which differ from traditional one week formats. Our two-week sessions provide campers with the time they need to develop relationships with staff, make friends, and learn and master new skills.
Modern Facilities in a Natural Environment: At TEC you get the best of both! Here at the Trent Athletics Centre, our indoor and outdoor facilities make up a wonderful camp environment. Campers enjoy clean and well-maintained buildings, and approximately 1,400 acres of forests, trails, and fields. Trent University is located outside the city core, and the Otonabee River provides a beautiful environment for water-based activities at our camp. |
We are proud of the amazing reputation we have in the area of being THE summer camp of choice and are happy to answer any questions and talk to you further about why to choose TEC for you and your family.
