RA special ceremony was held yesterday at the Trent Athletics Centre to unveil and dedicate the Trent Excalibur Legacy Sculpture.

The concept for the sculpture was developed by Trent Varsity athlete, Sara Rettie, a member of the Trent women’s volleyball team, as part of her 4th year Business Administration program Legacy Project.

Ms. Rettie wanted to create a lasting monument at the University, that would bring together all students and instill pride in Trent varsity athletics and the university overall.

As Ms. Rettie explained at the ceremony, "I wanted something that would promote togetherness with all Trent students. Our varsity athletes have a great sense of pride in representing Trent, and that pride should be shared amongst all students."

Ms. Rettie worked with local artist, Todd Riddolls, who specializes in forged wrought iron works through his company California Iron. Taking Ms. Rettie’s vision for the sculpture, Mr. Ridolls designed and created the wrought iron Excalibur sculpture.

At the dedication ceremony, Trent President, Dr. Steven Franklin, acknowledged the significant contribution that Mr. Riddolls made to the project through the donation of his time, creativity, and materials.
Trent Athletic Director, Bill Byrick, congratulated Ms. Rettie on the success of her project and for the contribution she has made to the University, noting that "the Excalibur sculpture is an inspiring monument that honours the spirit and tradition of varsity sport at Trent."

The Trent Excalibur Legacy Sculpture has a permanent location at the University on the grounds between the Athletics Centre and the Justin Chiu Stadium.
