Have Your Say on the Future of the Trent Lands
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Trent University Continues Trent Lands Plan
Community Consultation Process
Thursday, January 17, 2013, Peterborough
Trent University invites the Trent and Peterborough communities to attend the second consultation session about the future of the Trent Endowment Lands on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Trent Community Sports and Recreation Centre gymnasium, 1600 West Bank Drive. The University is in the process of creating a comprehensive and inclusive long-term plan to develop sections of its Endowment Lands over the next several years and decades. This is the second of three community consultations for the Trent Lands Plan.
“Our first round of community workshops generated a strong turnout and even stronger ideas. We are looking to build on input in our second phase to ensure the Trent Lands Plan reflects the needs and desires of both the University and Peterborough communities,” said Dr. Steven E. Franklin, Trent University president and vice-chancellor. “I invite everyone to join in at our next workshop and have your say.”
The workshop will begin with a presentation and recap of the feedback from round one, followed by small group discussions to ensure everyone has an opportunity to share their insights and to discuss the tremendous possibilities. For more information about the Trent Lands Plan and how you can have your say, please visit www.trentu.ca/trentlandsplan.
The first community workshop and on-campus focus groups, held in November, combined with emailed comments brought in feedback from 150 residents, alumni, students, faculty and staff. The second workshop will bring community residents and members of the Trent community together at the same table to brainstorm about the Trent Endowment Lands. For those unable to attend in person, online forums have been established so all interested groups and individuals can provide comments. These can be accessed by visiting www.trentu.ca/trentlandsplan.
The Trent Lands Plan builds upon the work set out in a number of planning documents including the original Trent Master Plan (1964), the Peterborough Biotechnology Park Study (2004), the Athletics Master Plan (2004), and the Endowment Lands Master Plan (2006). The Trent University Endowment Lands comprise approximately 226 hectares (559 acres) or 27 per cent of the University’s total land holdings in Peterborough. Trent has partnered with The Planning Partnership and Greenburg Consultants to lead the community consultations.
