Countdown to Canada Wide Science Fair Helps Attract Attention to Local Science Fair

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peterborough Regional Science Fair on April 10; Canada Wide Science Fair in Truro, NS in May 2007

Monday, March 19, 2007, Peterborough

The annual Science Fair season is quickly approaching with the 2007 Peterborough Regional Science Fair scheduled for Tuesday, April 10 at Trent University. Winners will move on to represent the Region at the Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF) in Truro, Nova Scotia in May.

The CWSF is an annual event that takes place in May each year where the best students from each of the Regional Science Fairs across the country compete on the national stage for medals and cash prizes. The Fair is held in a different Canadian city each year with Peterborough playing host in 2010. The Youth Science Foundation (YSF) Canada is the main co-ordinator and sponsor of the CWSF. Their goal is to promote and inspire our youth to explore the world of science.

Locally, hundreds of students are hard at work putting the final touches on projects they will use to compete in the Peterborough Regional Science Fair in April in the Chemical Sciences Building at Trent University. Winners will represent our region at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Truro, Nova Scotia for a week in May alongside some 450 other finalists from 98 regional fairs.

Science is all around us…EVERYTHING we see, hear, smell, feel, and taste is a subject of science. Inventions come in all sizes and shapes. Each year dedicated volunteer judges and sponsors from parents to teachers to community business leaders give their time and expertise to nurture and support these young inquisitive minds. By promoting scientific exploration among our youth, we invest in a better future for all.

Those interested in seeing what creative projects our youth are excited about are invited to visit the Fair and/or volunteer their time on April 10, 2007. Further information on volunteering or sponsoring can be found at the Peterborough Science Fair website or by contacting Marie Anderson in Department of the Associate Dean of Science at (705) 748-1011 ext. 7202.
