Trent Spirit Shines: Join Trent Day Celebrations on April 3 through Support, Service, Spirit
City of Peterborough proclaims April 3 Trent Day recognizing the fourth-annual event that boosts support for student needs, celebrates volunteer service to the community, and highlights Trent spirit
On Wednesday, April 3, the Trent University community – including students, staff, faculty, and alumni around the world – will mark the fourth-annual Trent Day by encouraging philanthropic support for student needs, reinforcing the University’s founding value of service to the community, and celebrating Trent spirit.
Recognizing Trent’s invaluable role in the vitality of the city, Jeff Leal - Mayor of the City of Peterborough and proud Trent University alumnus - will proclaim April 3 to be Trent Day, marking the occasion with an official flag raising ceremony.
"Trent Day holds a significant place in the Trent University calendar, showcasing our core values of support, service, and spirit," says Sherry Booth ’98, associate vice-president, Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement at Trent University. "It's a time to celebrate our dedication to these principles, our vital relationships within Peterborough and Durham, and unite as a community of alumni making a collective difference around the world. Our Trent spirit shines brighter than ever, and we warmly invite alumni and supporters everywhere to join us in this celebration."
Trent Day pays tribute to the April 1963 signing of the Trent University Act, a special day in Trent history when the University was officially granted the ability to confer degrees. Trent Day marks this founding of the institution and is celebrated at the Peterborough and Durham GTA campuses, and by alumni and supporters across the globe.
How to take part in Trent Day 2024:
1) Support
Make a gift to the Trent Fund, the University’s most flexible fund that provides resources (such as emergency food and housing assistance) when and where students need it most. For as little as $10 per month, members of the community can support students in a powerful, easy, and affordable way. Visit the Trent Day web page at www.trentu.ca/trentday for details.
2) Service
Bring a non-perishable item to donation booths stationed on both the Peterborough and Durham GTA campuses from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Demonstrating the spirit of service to the community, all donations collected on Trent Day will support Kawartha Food Share in Peterborough and Feed the Need in Durham in Oshawa.
3) Spirit
Trent Day is the time to wear your Trent gear and show your school spirit! All alumni, staff, faculty, and members of the community are invited to Peterborough City Hall at 10:30 a.m. for the official raising of the Trent University flag and declaration of Trent Day.
Those who can’t make it to the flag raising are encouraged to show their Trent pride on social media by posting a photo in their Trent threads or sharing a throwback photo from their days at Trent. Be sure to tag @Trent_Alumni or use the hashtag #TrentDay to be featured!
“This is great way to celebrate Trent! We hope all members of the Trent community will show their Trent pride, engage in Trent Day festivities, and make a gift to empower a student,” says associate vice-president Booth.
