Trent Student Lands Dream Job on Bay Street
Heather Little-Lillico '14 credits School of Business faculty for accounting job
When Heather Little-Lillico '14 enrolled at Trent, she had one goal in mind – securing employment at one of Toronto’s big four accounting firms. Fast-forward a few years and Ms. Little-Lillico is ready to take Bay Street by storm, having been recently hired as a junior accountant at Price Waterhouse Cooper – quite an accomplishment, considering she hasn’t even graduated yet.
Ms. Little-Lillico, who graduates from Trent this spring, says the support she received at the University gave her a significant advantage when job hunting. She began by attending workshops offered by the Trent Career Centre and met with a career advisor. After receiving feedback on her resume and cover letter, she made the suggested revisions and met with Trent Business professor, Dr. Maeve Quaid, who offered to help her prepare for her future career as an accountant. It made a difference. She got an interview.
“This preparation was crucial to my success in the interview process as it helped me systematically think through my personal experiences to identify key events and situations that I could offer as examples of my demonstration of the required skills. Professor Quaid worked with me in developing a logical method of attacking behavioral interview questions, which were asked in my interview,” says Ms. Little-Lillico.
“This is the job I was hoping to secure from my field of study,” she continues. “I would recommend Trent to future students largely due to the incredibly supportive faculty in the School of Business at Trent. There are so many faculty members that took the time to show personal interest in my plans for the future and development of my professionalism. I don’t know of any other university where you can develop such strong relationships with faculty members, who readily provide glowing advice and references.”
