New Trent University Durham Student Association Executive Takes Office
Executives to focus on heightened awareness of student benefits and activities
As spring rounds the corner toward summer at Trent University Durham, most students have vacated the lecture halls and left behind the meeting rooms for a few months. That is, except for our summer students and the new executive and directors of the Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA). The month of May marks the start of a one year term for the new executives and academic directors who represent Trent University Durham’s student body.
On April 29, the TDSA held its AGM and, at the close of the meeting, the old exec passed on the reigns to those who were elected in February of 2016. This week, the new executive found their way to the TDSA office to begin planning for the upcoming academic year. At the helm is Joe Cassidy-Skof, president with Jaclyn Hruby as vice-president of Campus Life and Kayla Peel, vice president of University Affairs and several other academic directors who represent many of the programs offered at Trent Durham.
“Students can expect a heightened awareness of what it means to be a member or citizen, if you will, of Trent University Durham in the upcoming 2016-17 academic year,” says TDSA president Mr. Cassidy-Skof. “Over the past two years, the TDSA has developed programs and initiatives to get students involved, advocated for them within the University and at all levels of government, and we have worked to improve their general University experience. This year, our executives will focus on several new activities, including increasing awareness of the services and benefits offered through the TDSA, including our improved health and dental plan, strengthening our orientation week activities, and working with the administration to continue to build strong academic programming at the Durham campus, just to name a few.”
Mr. Cassidy-Skof is also planning to give his first President’s Address in the coming weeks and will continue to update students on the TDSA’s activities throughout the summer months.
The mission of the TDSA includes student advocacy, open communication, student engagement in clubs and organizations and the pursuit of barrier-free academic excellence.
